"Tailor made lessons to suit your learning style."
I have been teaching for 10 years and have accumulated a wealth of experience, teaching in a variety of settings. These include 1 to 1, group ensemble sessions and group improvisation sessions across Yorkshire.
Post LCoM I studied a Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS) qualification alongside working with various other mentored and solo projects with Jazz North/ Live Music Now & North Yorkshire Music Action Zone (NYMAZ). This has helped me to keep up to date with current teaching standards and practices, alongside continuing my professional development. I now regularly teach students at Leeds Grammar School, Harrogate Grammar School, King James School, York Music Forum & York St John University alongside private students. I'm comfortable teaching students of various ages and abilities ranging from absolute beginner to advanced students and from 7 years old upwards. Not only are one to one lessons available but so are or group lessons/ workshops if requested.
In lessons a variety of topics can be covered in lessons, including.
Posture & breathing,
Sight reading (help with notation & rhythmic recognition),
Improvising from beginner to advanced,
Aural skills (Jazz & Classical),
Theory lessons (Jazz & Classical),
Composition & arranging (Jazz),
ABRSM grades (I am able to submit students for exams.)
If there is something specific you'd like to study which doesn't appear on the list above, please drop me an email or call to see if I'm able to accommodate what you'd like to learn. IF in the event I can't I will certainly be able to signpost you to another suitable teacher for your request.
Lastly, If exams aren't your cup of tea, don't panic. Exams aren't the most important element whilst learning an instrument! As long as you enjoy the process and show/ feel development in your playing, that's the most important factor.
If you'd like to discuss or have any questions about lessons, please contact me.
