'Tailored lessons, designed to accomplish your goals.'
I have been teaching now, for best part of 8 years and have accumulated a wealth of experience by regularly teaching in various settings. One to one lessons privately, teaching at Harrogate Grammar School, as well as taking group sessions and workshops for Leeds Artforms, Jazz North & North Yorkshire Music Action Zone (NYMAZ).
Post LCoM I studied a Preparing To Teach In The Lifelong Learning Sector (PTTLS) qualification alongside working with various other mentored and solo projects with Jazz North/ Live Music Now & North Yorkshire Music Action Zone (NYMAZ). This has helped me to stay up to date with current teaching standards and practices alongside continuing my professional development. Alongside teaching in schools & privately, I regularly also teach group jazz improvisation lessons at 'Heart' in Headingley as well as teaching regularly on a summer school course in Leeds called 'Musicale.'
Due to my wide array of teaching & experience I'm comfortable teaching students ranging from aged 8 to 80+, ranging in ability from absolute beginner to advanced students. Not only are one to one lessons available but so are or group lessons/ workshops (see teaching videos), if you have any queries, contact me.
I can cover a variety of topics in lessons, including.
Posture & breathing,
Sight reading (help with notation & rhythmic recognition),
Technical studies (Jazz & Classical),
Improvising from beginner to advanced,
Aural skills (Jazz & Classical),
Theory lessons (Jazz & Classical),
Composition & arranging (Jazz),
ABRSM grades, (I am registered to submit students for exams, If desired).
If there is something specific you'd like to study, feel free to drop me an email. Also, If exams aren't your cup of tea, don't panic. Exams aren't the most important element whilst learning an instrument, the key is to enjoy the process and to show/feel development. If you'd like to discuss tailoring a lesson for you, contact me. and we can discuss further what you'd like to achieve!
